Hagiography. In praise of Hags

I went to hospital last week to support a friend who was saying goodbye to a family member at the end of her life. Joan, I will call her, had slipped into unconsciousness and her breathing was laboured by the time we got there. She is very old and has been saying for some time she does not want to be here anymore.
