I have four grandchildren.
Two little boys and two tiny girls. When I tell people this, they often say in a good-natured way that they are jealous. Friends will say they cannot wait till they have grandchildren, but it doesn’t look like this will be happening for a while. Or sometimes people tell me that they have one grandchild, and they would like more but their daughter or son is not in a position to have another baby. They cost too much, and the work/ housing/ finances are impossible for young families
Of course, I get all this and am really not someone who thinks everyone should have babies. Or does not see how hard it is for so many. At all.
I had babies and am in constant shock that those babies had babies. It’s some kind of time travel in your own lifetime. Often, I feel I don’t need some kind of sci-fi parallel universe type fantasy any more - which I used to be into – because life itself, the basics of reproduction, the actual creation of other human beings is mind blowing enough.
